The Government of Himachal Pradesh, on July 08, 2026, issued a notification regarding Road Drainage Guidelines.
The following has been stated: -
•The Government of Himachal Pradesh Public Works Department has issued a notification outlining guidelines for road drainage improvement works under the budgetary head "Drainage-Improvement" (Major Head 5054) to combat severe monsoon damage.
•These guidelines establish a framework for preparing Detailed Project Reports (DPRs) that prioritize continuous road stretches between 10 km and 25 km, focusing initially on Major District Roads.
•Project proposals require thorough hydrological surveys based on IRC standards to address gaps, replacing V-shaped drains with U-shaped variants and substituting failing pipe culverts with box culverts.
•Additional measures include providing paved shoulders on the drain side, toe walls for erosion control, and proper channelization to protect hill slopes and adjoining properties.
•Divisions must first submit Preliminary Project Reports (PPRs) for evaluation within 14 days, ensuring integrated project execution without splitting works or delaying necessary land permissions.
